Thought I would mark the milestone of 1000 on Flickr with an old photo (99% of the 1000 are new & not seen on Webshots). Yes Penguins in their natural habitat & taken in December 1956 (dates me a bit!). Taken with an Ensign 620 film cam that cost me over 3 weeks pay (NS pay then 17.5p per day!). I will probably upload more Antarctica photos sometime in future when I run out of new subjects! lol

Possibly a male as it has a thicker neck & broader head than a female. They can stay under water up to 80 minutes as they have more red blood cells per unit of blood + other abilities to shut down unused parts of the body. Taken on my December 2006 trip

Possibly a female as it has a narrower face than a male. Most southerly breeding seal & stays under ice in winter using teeth to keep a breathing hole open. Teeth wear out hence not as long lived as other seals. taken on my December 2006 trip
