In spite of several visits to Lisbon, this is first time I have got to the top of the hill to take a picture of this famous park. Looking down towards the City & river Tagus beyond.

Also known as a Purple Gallinule ( Porphyrio porphyrio) Fairly rare & an elusive habitat deep in the reeds but one or two have turned up in UK. Found this one preening in the Reeds untill it realized it was being watched. there was also a juvenile there whose photo I will post another day, (very busy day today). Taken in the paddyfields south of Valencia Spain. In shape it is rather like a Hen sized Moorhen, but with brilliant purple & blue plumage with bright red shield on forehead

by the afternoon it had clouded over so light was not so good & this Black-necked Grebe stayed some distant out on the pool. Still good to see though, we do not see too many in Norfolk
