I am fairly certain that the symbol for this Canadian Pacific local was K48, caught at the Union Pacific diamonds in Albert Lea, Minnesota on October 3rd, 2024. – We had been waiting for the UP job off in the distance to leave town with its nice set of three GPs, and then this CPKC job came along (the UP train never did present itself for our cameras).

The tracks on the UP side here were once those of the Rock Island, then the Chicago & North Western after that, and the CPKC was formerly a Milwaukee Road line that ran west from Austin out to Jackson, and then became part of the Soo Line.

Not sure when this abandoned brick interlocking tower was built, but I would imagine that long, long ago it had originally been a wooden structure. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
