This industrial scale lime kiln was built in 1873 for the Craven Lime Company. The Hoffmann Continuous kiln was patented in 1858 by its German inventor Friedrich Hoffmann. The version built under licence at Langcliffe had 22 individual burning chambers. Limestone was burned continuously in a circuit around the kiln and it took an average of six weeks for one whole circuit.

West Burton is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in the Yorkshire Dales National Park with a large village green and no through road.

Also within the village is the West Burton Cauldron Falls one of the waterfalls drawn by Turner during his tour of the North of England.

Old Gang Smelt Mill.
The area around Old Gang was one of the most intensively-mined parts of Swaledale in the 18th and 19th centuries. The largest surviving building at Old Gang is the smelting mill.

Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. It is located approximately three miles south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, near to the village of Aldfield. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for over 400 years, until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries.

This room is one of the only intact surviving upstairs rooms in the Abbey. Photo taken using A Canon 1DS III using a Canon EF15mm f/2.8 Fisheye lens
