I have decided during December to Post 2 Pics a day that have not been seen on Flickr for at least 5 years. That allows me to have an "Easy Month"......it also gives some of the "Older Stuff" a bit of an "airing"...…..Hope you like them.
At the moment...….there are some pics that are already accessible "for the public" posted here...…...but the majority are still marked "Private" and will be released when the time comes.
May 1978
I left home in may 1978'
I had been abroad before, but never alone.
I got my first job on the 11th May 1978.........my birthday
It was at the old Heiniken Brewery, Amsterdam.
The Job Spec:......pick up any bottles that had fallen over on the conveyor belt.
I had been issued with a stick with a hook.
2pm to 10pm.....
the kind of work rich folks kids don't do.
At 10 pm.........an Aussie I had been working with........let's call him Bruce.........said ok......
"the locker room".......the drinks are on me!!!!!!!!!!!
So Bruce and I drank litres of Heiniken from bottles that miracuously appeared whenever supplies ran low.
About Midnight..........we decided to head for town,,,,,,,,a little worse for wear.....
Security stopped us on the moment of escape
"Halt" said the security Guard "Why are you leaving drunk?"
"Because it's a brewery" I said
this didn't seem to be the right answer.........however Bruce saved the day by proclaiming it was my birthday........
"Why didn't you say" said the security guy............."come into my office and let's celebrate".
We did.............about 2 hours later we made our escape.......
headed for town...........Bruce got fined by the police for riding his bike on a footpath............but we were happy........it was my birthday after all.
I worked for 3 more days at the Brewery..................I never saw Bruce or the security guy ever again!!.
Amstel................
There were 3 guys...........2 Irish and myself..............sent to the Amstel Brewery about a week later.
The job was to empty 170 full barrels of Amstel "back into the system"...........whatever that mean't?.
We were instructed to do this in the basement of the building.
After instruction..........they left us to the job.
We discovered that adjacent to our work place was a conveyer belt transporting Heiniken Export to it;s rendevous with fate.............
Ok reasoned one of the "Micks".............we could just help ourselves to a bottle or two to refresh the nights work..........
being a democracy the vote was carried by 3 votes to zero..............
unfortunately no safeguards had been built into our actions and the drinking of the Heiniken took precedence over work..........
now it is difficult to remember exactly what happened at clocking off time........
But i think we might have drawn attention to ourselves as we stagered out of the dark and into the light.
One of the poor Micks was instantly dismissed................for some reason i was given another day's work...........I must have impressed them..........
