Upon looking closer at other images I took yesterday, this is a muskrat. It did not leave when the beaver came down past it on the hill to the creek.
Sigma 150-500 f5-6.3 lens on a Canon EOS 7D hand held shutter priority no edits other than saved as a JPG in Lightroom Classic.
