Saw a branch in the laneyway, dragged it up on the deck as I knew I wanted to photograph the life that was growing on it. Seen here is what I found on the web to be Letharia vulpina, wolf lichen which grows like a multiple-branched tuft or leafless mini-shrub, so it has a fruticose growth form.

I found on the web that this lichen would more than likely be Pannaria lurida which forms small leaf-like scales crustose below but free at the tips, so it is squamulose.

As you can see the water now is starting to open up more. There is just at "skim" of ice on the winding creek that will eventually make it's way into the Mississippi River near Carleton Place here in Ontario Canada.
