Let me share one of the best experiences of my entire life with you.
youtu.be/wYRh2mQ4268
In this video, I come face to face with a big wild cat and it's everything I hoped it would be.
I show you the entire encounter from start to finish and even the exact moment when I capture the shot I waited for so patiently.
The question is, am I making friends with a lynx or a bobcat? One thing I can tell you is that no kebabs were harmed during this encounter.
Things go well and we're getting along great until I try to read a couple of pages of 'Chasing Awe With Gavin Hardcastle' to this potentially dangerous predator. She clearly prefers fiction or perhaps self-help books. Whatever her preference, I'm left looking like a fool.
Will Amanda buy me that 800mm lens for my birthday? Will I put my foot in a hunters snare and what's got this big cat so spooked when it looks over my shoulder?
There's really only one way to find out.

Can you believe this guy? First he insults my channel, he then proceeds to educate me and my audience whether we want it or not. Are all 'birders' like this?
What starts out as a dazzling landscape photography vlog at Hopewell Rocks turns into a risky midnight adventure under the stars with a notoriously dangerous tide.
Not only do I have to contend with Simon d'Entremont schooling Amanda and I about birds, but a cheeky troll shows up to namedrop my competitors. At least my new Sigma 14-24mm wide angle lens puts everyone else to shame.
I do however have the last laugh as my world class impersonation of a bald eagle leaves Simon awestruck at my brilliance.
After framing up a killer shot of the most amazing sea stacks in Canada, I'm forced to deal with some technical challenges that mean the difference between a portfolio piece or total failure.
Can I rise to the challenge? Will Simon ever turn off his red light and does Amanda really enjoy the taste of raw sea weed?
There's really only one way to find out.
Thanks for reading
Gavin

What do you do when you've almost run out of books and it's all because of the unspeakable treachery of International Landscape Photographer of The Year Adam Gibbs?
I knew my book was hot but now it's literally on fire! When it comes to rivalry, we've both committed some pretty sketchy deeds over the years but this is going one step too far.
Thankfully, there's something to look forward to as I still manage to enjoy a wonderful morning of solitary sunrise photography in the most tranquil setting Canada has to offer.
One of the most important elements of landscape photography is to make sure you've got a plan B shot in your pocket. That level of adaptability comes from the joy of doing a recce - which should be fun.
In this episode, I have to ditch my expectations and work with what I've got. It's a bitter pill to swallow but not as bitter as the protein bar in my pocket...(gerrin touch).
For once I find a composition that works well with the Fujifilm GFX100s in 4x3 mode. Delightful 'S-curves', glowing cottonwood trees, and distant mountains. What more could I ask for?
Thanks for watching

In this video, I go full pixel-peeing nerd and take you to a local beauty spot to see how much difference $10,000 makes to your landscape photography.
I pour all of my energy into capturing just one beautiful shot using two different camera systems, but I think I stepped in something stinky.
After hundreds of questions from viewers about the Fuji GFX100s, I decided the best way to answer these questions was to make a video addressing all of my loves and hates of this camera and whether or not I would buy it.
I also figured it would be helpful to do a comparison with a much more affordable camera system to see if there's really any justification for spending upwards of $11,000 just for one camera and one lens.
I finally reveal the results of the image test I posted a few days ago to see if my audience of discerning snobs got it right, you might be surprised with the results.
Thanks for watching Gavin Hardcastle - Fototripper.
