Arthur River | TAS | Australia

I always arrive to find the sea angry on the West side of the island, and it makes for some dramatic photography.

Freycinet | TAS | Australia

I'm really grateful for Freycinet Lodge giving me access to shoot this jetty, and for mother nature turning on some color - just when I thought nothing was going to happen in the sky, on she came!

I was pretty pumped with adrenaline shooting this one. I went to the front desk moments before sunset to confirm that it was OK to shoot the jetty and there was a different girl on the desk from when Luke and I had scoped it out at lunchtime earlier that day. She said I could but stated "you'll have to shoot through the metal gate as it'll be locked for safety".

I raced down to the Jetty and was relived to find the metal gate swung wide open - I went though and got setup.

Just before the sky blew up I was working my tripod and camera to get the symmetry perfect (well I hope it is!) and this couple wandered down to have a chat and talk photography. They were very friendly but when "it's on" I really don't like distractions, and I was polite as I could be under the circumstances. The man kept wanting to show me photos he'd taken recently in Tasmania, which meant I had to stop what I was doing (checking levels, focus, composition, adjusting grad line, scanning the sky for color...) and look at his phone. He said "have a look at this one. I uploaded it to the Internet - it went viral". I had to hold back my laughter. Sure it was a pleasant shot, but I think "going viral" to him meant he got a dozen likes from Facebook friends.

Anyways the wife then said something about letting me concentrate and they wandered off. Then the sky blew up and I would have let out some hollers, had it not been other lodge onlookers a little way back, and me wanting to be a bit low key shooting beyond the unlocked metal gate.
