An energetic game of footvolley on Tel Aviv's Trumpledor Beach produced this energetic move. I couldn't get that seen from Top Gun out of my head while I was watching it.

Amnon stopped me for a chat when I was walking through the strongly Orthodox suburb of Bnei Brak. He asked me where I was from. and when I told him Ireland, he said, “God bless Ireland, the Queen, and Israel."

Beit Weiss is a building on the corner of Herzl and Ahad Ha'am streets in Tel Aviv-Yafo, built in 1909-10. It was designed by Akiva Aryeh Weiss in the Haaretz-Israeli style, using bricks produced in a Jewish factory (Arber) in Jaffa. Initially the house had one floor with six rooms and an attic, and in 1927 another floor was added to it. Akiva Aryeh Weiss moved to the second floor and the ground floor was converted into a commercial floor.

One of the oldest surviving buildings in Central Tel Aviv, it stands in contrast to the International Style buildings that dominated construction in the city from the 1920s onwards; although even the Weiss building had to make some exterior changes in its 1927 expansion to fit with the severe and plain style demanded in the city plan.

In 2000, the building was renovated according to a conservation plan by the architect Amnon Bar Or; this also involved restoring the original 1909 detail, which was covered up in 1927 but not destroyed. Renovating the house was a condition for building the huge office tower block next door.
