Bourke Street.
Melbourne's cable tram system opened in 1885, and expanded to one of the largest in the world, with 75 kilometres (46.6 miles) of double track. The first electric tram line opened in 1889, but closed only a few years later in 1896. In 1906 electric tram systems were opened in St Kilda and Essendon, marking the start of continuous operation of Melbourne's electric trams.

'At the beginning of 1950, thirteen Australian cities had tram systems: Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Adelaide, Perth, Fremantle, Kalgoorlie, Hobart and Launceston’.
Melbourne is unique for the fact that it is the only city that still retains a large network.

We took a day trip to Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island, with Cruise Whitsundays, from Hamilton Island.
A little overcast but still beautiful.
One of Australia's finest beaches, pure white silica sand.
Whitsunday Island is also accessible by boat from the mainland tourist ports of Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour. It contains many popular destinations for both day visitors and overnight sailors, including the magnificent pure-white sands of Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet, the secure anchorage of Cid Harbour, and the sheltered waterway of Gulnare Inlet. The island has six campgrounds.

We had travelled by train from Victoria to Dover, then ferry to Calais and overnight train to Antibes.
Stowed everything on board. Magnificent aft cabin for us. John in forepeak. Laurie and Bill in saloon. Did some provision shopping in Juan les Pins. Also pricy. Back to boat. Champagne to christen 'Pagoda', our home for three weeks.

Between Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa
The Trans Karoo Express, or simply Trans Karoo, was a South African express passenger train service which travelled an approximately 1,600-kilometre (990 mi) journey between Johannesburg and Cape Town. It operated daily in each direction, meaning that there were in fact two Trans Karoos - they passed each other during the night, heading in opposite directions. The service was operated by Spoornet, the national railway company.
The Trans Karoo was named from the Great Karoo scrubland, one of the most extensive geographical features of southern Africa, across which the train operated...
The service is now incorporated into the Shosholoza Meyl network of operations, a sub-division of the national passenger train operator, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa. Although the title of Trans Karoo has officially ended, it is still used colloquially..
