Visit in 1994 to the elegant Raffles Hotel, which is one of the few old parts of Singapore still in existence.

Opened in 1887 and named after Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles 1781-1826.

'On 19th January, 1819, Raffles founded modern Singapore and first mooted the idea which led to the establishment of the Raffles Museum on the island.'
