User / Glatz Nature Photography / Steller's Sea Eagle Takeoff "in explore"
David & Shiela Glatz / 1,332 items
Steller's Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus) takes off from the ice floe. This guy was also a performer in the "Rausu Harbor Air and Water Show". Steller's sea eagles can have a wingspan of up to 8 feet, and can weigh up to 20 pounds. Cousins to the Bald Eagle and the White-Tailed Sea Eagle, Steller's Sea Eagles are considered the most aggressive and powerful of the three. When this eagle landed on the ice floe, he weighed a tad too much for the ice, causing his talons to be completely submerged. This poor Steller's Sea Eagle had no choice but to take off - although he still looked pretty menacing even with his talons totally underwater!
Effortless power.
