Mating male Lion (Panthera leo) checks the scent of the female as he gets up to attempt to mate with her. The "object of his affections" - the lioness - smacked him on the nose, growled at him, and walked away. Masai Mara, Kenya.

Male Lion, belly full of Cape Buffalo and thirst slaked by a nearby stream, scans for a place to nap. After he and another male lion left the area, a lioness and a sub-adult male lion took over the kill. Hyena started arriving a short time later.
Masai Mara, Kenya.

Lioness makes off with about all that's left of a Cape Buffalo, while Spotted Hyenas calculate their odds of getting something. This pride had killed a large Cape Buffalo over-night. Two male lions, with their bellies bursting, had just walked off in search of water for their meal. This lioness and another male lion (maybe 2 years old) were left to "mop up" what was left of the Cape Buffalo. It was only when the lioness and the young male lion were finished with their meal that the hyenas were able to sneak away with some scraps. Masai Mara, Kenya.

Lion cub (Panthera leo) clearly doesn't enjoy his mother's attention to hygiene. This hunting group consisted of 2 lioness, a yearling male lion, and 3 6-month old cubs. They had killed a waterbok over-night, and were feeding on the kill when we came upon them. The cubs, although wearing more of the meat than eating it, were actively trying to gnaw at the carcass. When they got tired of that they nursed. Here you can see one of them nursing in the background. Mom was just trying to keep this little guy up-front relatively clean. Masai Mara, Kenya.
