This bull Elk (Cervus canadensis) was the king of his particular domain. Rutting bulls can be very aggressive so we kept our distance from him. Here he's checking behind him for challengers or rivals approaching his harem of about 30 females. There were none. Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

This Bison (Bison bison) and a couple of his buddies were feeding in an area right next to the road. We love the Bison's eyes - if you zoom in and look into his left eye, you can see the photographers (maintaining a safe distance of course). The details in this portrait make it a "keeper" for us - the eye, the pine needles in his fur, the light-colored hairs around his mouth. Yellowstone National Park.
