We were fortunate to capture this healthy, young male Pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) strolling across a meadow, in casual pursuit of a lovely female on the other side of the road. The Black Hills, Custer State Park, South Dakota.

Mother Pronghorn took her two little ones (all legs!) into the tall grass meadow while she fed. Even through the tall grass, and all the bouncing around the little ones were doing, we got one decent image. We watched them from the side of the road for about 20 minutes - most of the time not even shooting because they were headed away from us. It was worth it. At the entrance to Custer State Park, Black Hills, South Dakota.

It had been 5 years since we visited the Black Hills. Last time it rained the entire short trip. On this trip we were greeted by thousands of birds. 90% of them we could only hear, and the Meadowlark, with its beautiful and distinctive song, usually introduced itself to our ears first. Here, a brief pause to enjoy the song led us directly to this individual on the side of the road. Wildlife Loop Road, Custer State Park, The Black Hills, South Dakota.

We stayed in a cabin near the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park, South Dakota during our visit to the Black Hills. The cabin was roomy, clean and beautiful. An added bonus was the group of red squirrels whose home was in a tree in front of our cabin. Each afternoon, they would come out and chase each other. Apparently it was red squirrel mating season! Really impressed by the agility and athleticism of these little guys. Yeah they are pretty cute too.
