While it may look like a giant pineapple ring, I suspect it's a stone wheel used to grind wheat and corn. It's part of the display in the Cedar Creek Grist Mill in Clark County, Washington.

This bit of machinery looks like a monster from a flour punk science fiction novel. I don't think anyone has written a flour punk novel yet, but I may give it a whirl. Steam punk fans may try it and decide they like the flavor of it. How about a dirible powered by the wheel of a grist mill? I'm not sure how the physics behind that would work that out. Any ideas?
