Blue Land Crabs, also called Giant Land Crabs in some locations, are more visible during the spawning season and during the migration of the females to the waters of the Atlantic to release their eggs. Their activity seems to peak in late August through October on the Treasure Coast of Florida. The rest of the year they are seldom seen outside of their burrows which they dig into the ground. They are found in coastal areas of the Atlantic from the Treasure Coast of Florida south to the Atlantic coast of Central, and South America to Brazil, and throughout the coasts of the Caribbean and coastal Gulf of Mexico.
