Today I celebrate with pride. December 31st marks 20 years since I last tasted alcohol.
This evening, 20 years ago, we celebrated at the neighboring restaurant in Almunecar. As usual, I got drunk and managed to fall over the neighboring table. Here, the Spanish quindes dressed up in their finest splendor had the entire meal in their laps.
My two companions and I left the scene.
The next morning, I heard my good friend Onni say to my better half; Helge can't stop drinking on his own, he needs professional help.
Those were exactly the words that were needed. I don't give a damn if I should get professional help, if I were to stop drinking I would be able to do it on my own.
It has now been 20 years since I have pushed all thoughts of alcohol down the cellar. I will be so bold as to say that I will probably never touch alcohol again.
If you have problems with alcohol, all you have to do is decide to stop, and it's done.
