A look down a section of the main road in Waterloo Village in Byram Township, Sussex County New Jersey. The Village was once a thriving canal town along the Morris Canal during the 1800s. For part of the later 1900s it became a historical tourist attraction until closing and falling into disrepair. In recent years through the efforts of volunteer groups a number of the buildings in the village have undergone preservation work in an attempt to preserve the village for future generations. It is also the home of the museum for the New Jersey Canal Society.

The original sawmill on this location was built in the 1830s and operated until 1910. In 1917 a fire burned that mill. Volunteers built this replica sawmill in the 1970s using much of the same foundation and design as the original sawmill. My Wife and I made our first trip out to the Genesee Country Village and Museum in Mumford, New York in August. It was huge compared to most living history and farm museums we have visited and the people there were very knowledgeable and friendly. With 600 acres of land and nearly seventy different buildings and farm areas in the village, it was pretty easy to see hundreds of things to photograph. We will definitely be back there soon.
