Testing out the recently acquired Nikon D850 and 24-85mm AFS G lens. Jakey Hollow Natural Area outside Bloomsburg in Columbia County Pennsylvania, before the rains came.
Part of a new long-term project that I will be working on over the next few years focusing on Eastern US old-growth forest and the efforts to preserve them before we lose them forever. The project will combine both large format film as well as digital capture where it makes most sense.

Downed trees criss cross one another along the Long Loop Trail at the 122 acre Hearts Content Recreational Area, part of the Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. The forest there is one of the most interesting of the remaining old-growth forests I have visited so far and the walk on the trail could only be described as "otherworldly".

I spent a soul-enriching afternoon at the Alan Seeger Natural Area in the mountains of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania on Sunday. It rained periodically, leaving the creek to run at a brisk pace, mist rising above its banks. It was very quiet after the rain drove away all the other people. Alone with the trees in the old-growth forest I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude that I was given this moment to experience along with these magnificent towering giants and the feeling of the soft bed of Hemlock needles beneath my feet.

Birch Trees in the Marion Brooks Natural area of Moshannon State Forest in Benezette Township, Elk County, Pennsylvania. Marion Brooks Natural Area has the largest concentration of White Birch Trees, sometimes known as "Paper Birch", in Pennsylvaania.
