One of my favorite places to shoot is the Cooper Mill in Morris County, New Jersey. The mill was built by Nathan Cooper in 1826. Cooper Mill is a working mill with tours available on a scheduled basis. An organization known as "Friends of Cooper Grist Mill" oversees it's maintenance and operation. You can visit their web site at FriendsOfCooperGristMill.org.

After having screwed up my first attempt at C41 color negative film developing last week, my second attempt on Sunday night resulted in much better results. I think I still have a lot of room for improvement but it's definite progress. I have a stockpile of about 15 rolls of 120, five rolls of 35mm and half a dozen sheets of 4x5 color (mix of Kodak Ektar, Kodak Portra 400 and Fuji Pro400H in the stockpile) still to color develop. All part of the learning process and the fun of returning to film.
The Dunham Mill, sometimes known as "Hunt's Mill" was built in 1836 by Daniel Hunt and underwent renovations spanning the years 1953 and 1989. Today it is home to the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, NJ. The mill is built of limestone and has a 40' x 60' footprint. It is located directly across the Raritan River from the very picturesque Clinton Red Mill. The mill was in continuous operation from 1836 through 1952.
Camera: Bronica SQ-A medium format film camera with a Bronica Zenzanon 50mm lens. Tiffen Circular Polarizer mounted on lens. Negative cropped from the usual 6x6cm out of the camera size to 16x9" size in Lightroom.
Film: Kodak Portra 400 C41 Color Negative Film
Development: Self Developed film using Tetenal C41 color development press kit in a Paterson Universal Tank.
Scanning: Negative scanned with Epson V600.
Some areas for improvement for next time include taming the blue hue in the shadow areas and ending up with finer grain. I believe the grain issue might be attributed to slightly overly aggressive inversions during the development phase.

I stumbled on this old Agway feed mill in the small town of Thompson Pennsylvania. It didn't speak to me, it yelled and I knew I had to make a photo of it. These are the types of locations that aren't there when you go back if you wait for any period of time. I've learned that lesson the hard way.
