Clematis is a genus of about 300 specieswithin the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. Their garden hybrids have been popular among gardenersbeginning with Clematis × jackmanii, a garden standby since 1862; more hybrid cultivars are being produced constantly. They are mainly of Chinese and Japanese origin. Most species are known as clematis in English, while some are also known as traveller's joy, a name invented for the sole British native, C. vitalba, by the herbalist John Gerard; virgin's bower for C. viticella; old man's beard, applied to several with prominent seedheads; leather flower for those with fleshy petals; or vase vine for the North American Clematis viorna. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clematis

within easy walking distance of Honfleur, Bois de Breuil is a magnificent wood or forest for the photographer, even in deepest winter.
Bois du Breuil, Forest of Breuil. A rich forest, part of the commune of Équemauville and overlooking the communes (towns/villages) of Honfleur, Vasouy and Pennedepie as well as the River Seine. It belonged to the Dukes of Normandy until 1204 when King Philippe Auguste conquered Normandy and the forest passed to the French kings. Located 4km from Honfleur, the Bois du Breuil is one of the rare forests on the coastline and is open to the public. This forest, covering 120 hectares, is the property of the Conservatoire du Littoral (Coastal Conservancy). Great variety of species (32 listed species including oak, beech, Scots pine and maritime pine), a fine population of naturalised rhododendrons, large 1,200m path lined with beech trees dating from 1850. Preserved natural wealth thanks to meticulous management in keeping with nature. Access via the RD62 (Equemauville-Pennedepie road). 2 car parks. taking the long view from the Castel Sant’ Angelo in the direction of Frascati. The left hand side shows the gleaming white marble of the Altar to the Fatherland which mostly obscures the colosseum and everywhere the domed church and monumental roofs of Rome, the hills around the lake Lago Albano, Monte Compatri, Monte Cavo, as a blue backdrop.

Sainte Chapelle: A gem of Gothic style. Built in seven years, an impressive feat, the Sainte Chapelle was intended to house precious Christian relics, including Christ's crown of thorns, acquired by Saint Louis. Religious and political influence. Having these sacred relics in his possession made the already powerful monarch head of western Christianity. Stunning stained glass. Arranged across 15 windows, each 15 metres high, the stained glass panes depict 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments recounting the history of the world until the arrival of the relics in Paris. Begun some time after 1238 and consecrated on 26 April 1248, the Sainte-Chapelle is considered among the highest achievements of the Rayonnant period of Gothic architecture. It was commissioned by King Louis IX of France to house his collection of Passion relics, including Christ's Crown of Thorns—one of the most important relics in medieval Christendom. Along with the Conciergerie, the Sainte-Chapelle is one of the earliest surviving buildings of the Capetian royal palace on the Île de la Cité. Although damaged during the French Revolution, and restored in the 19th century, it has one of the most extensive 13th-century stained glass collection anywhere in the world. www.sainte-chapelle.fr/en
