I went to a memorial service and each of the 100+ attendees was invited to take home a set of the deceased woman's collection of miniature salt and pepper shakers.

I was raised to do my chores (without complaining too loudly) and take care of my belongings. As an adult, I dust and sweep and make my bed, etc, etc.

But sweet Marie's posthumous gift stays exactly the way it looked when she owned it: a bit tarnished and corroded...and thoroughly charming for the imperfections.
