Owing to trackwork during the month of July, the Spirit of the Outback operated on different days, or on this occasion, departed two hours earlier than normal to avoid a cancelled service.

2485H drops down through Murphys Creek with the eastbound Westlander passenger service from Charleville to Roma Street as 3987.

One of three locomotive hauled passenger services left in Queensland, The Westlander operates twice-weekly from Brisbane's Roma Street station to Charleville, some 777km away or 17 hours total travel time. Today the service is a shell of its former self, operating with a power, crew and two economy carriages, a far cry from its heyday with multiple sleeping carriages which were axed in 2014.
