TS48 (D148/D48) with car DD9848 in the lead, heads away from Bell through Dargan with trial train G623 to Lithgow.

The New Intercity Fleet "Mariyung" trains are the replacement electric multiple unit trains for the ageing V set fleet which were built from 1977-1989. They will also replace the H/T set fleets which will cascade down to suburban running.

Mariyung is the Darug word for Emu, in acknowledgement of local Aboriginal culture. A play on words considering these trains are E.M.Us.

55x 10 carriage trains have been purchased as a 1:1 replacement of the existing intercity rollingstock, with an additional 14x 4 carriage trains also ordered as part of an expansion.

The Mariyung fleet is expected to enter service from mid-2024 and will travel on the Sydney to Newcastle, Lithgow and Kiama/Port Kembla lines.
