4 different eagle action sequences shot on January 17, 2018 at Lock and Dam 14 on the Mississippi River near Le Claire, IA. These are 4 out of many sequences I was able to capture on that particularly active day.
The first is a typical sequence of an eagle snagging a fish and carrying it off. The second sequence is of an eagle landing on a piece of floating ice. The third, an eagle overshoots his target and puts on full air brakes. He was able to drop and pick up the fish, but I was not able to stay on the sequence. The fourth shows what eagles typically do when their catch is small. They transfer it from foot to mouth and swallow it, all within a few seconds.
The sequences are first shown at 1 frame per second so you can actually see the frames. Then shown again in real time at 10 frames per second to give you an idea of how fast this goes down. Also, you can understand how it is so easy to shoot 2,000 shots in an afternoon.
These sequences were shot with my Canon 7D MkII and Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2.

A short video of an image sequence shot with my Canon 7D MkII from shooting several bursts at 10 fps of an eagle grabbing a fish from the Mississippi River. The clip includes 30 of the 50 images shot, played at 10 fps. I got several nice shots out of this particular sequence

A sequence of shots taken at L&D 14 to show how an eagle typically spots and catches a fish from the river. It is not one continuous sequence because I often cant hold the bird in the focus zone and have to stop shooting to re-acquire focus.
