A blue jay at John Chesnut Senior Park, Palm Harbor, Florida.
The blue jay is a passerine bird in the family Corvidae and native to North America. Males and females are similar in size and plumage and plumage does not vary during the year.
So, you may be asking, what's a passerine bird? A passerine bird is any bird of the Passeriformes which includes more than 50% of all bird species. Sometimes these birds are known as perching birds or, less accurately as "songbirds". They are distinguished from other orders of birds by the arrangement of their toes where three point forward and one back which facilitates perching.
