A group of schoolchildren listening to a sound and light show at Manchester's Imperial War Museum using historic archive photos which tries to explain, as best it can in language they can understand, the terrible consequences of war.
I found the images extremely moving but I was glad that my own children were not with me.
I did wonder afterward whether the placement of the projector recess in relation to the 'long dead' girl's forehead was a deliberate decision by the museum curators or was it just one of life's bizarre coincidences?
(this photo was taken using a small compact digicam at 1600iso- the room was so dark that I couldn't see the camera controls, neither did I have a tripod)

I was in Halifax the other day and went to see the snicket where Bill Brandt took his famous photo in 1937: media2.moma.org/collection_images/resized/348/w500h420/CR...
It was an amazing experience to be able to stand in the same spot on the same slippery wet cobblestones and look through a camera viewfinder at essentially the same scene that Brandt photographed so eloquently all those years ago.
There are times in life where you can feel vividly and directly connected to the past and this was one of them for me. It felt like a real privilege and honour to be there.
