This advertisement is interesting for several reasons. In the context of 1934 the term "Volkswagen" was a generic term for a "peoples car," which is how Ford was marketing their new 1.0 liter Koln (German-built Model Y). The model shown here appears to be a coach-built cabrio which probably sold for more that the advertised RM 1990.

The Rhineland was a Model 40 Ford (1933/34) with a Model B 3.2 four-cylinder engine. By 1934 Ford no longer offered a four-cylinder car in North America, but this car was built in Germany (and possibly other European countries) until 1936. The truck would also be a four-cylinder, in this case the Model BB truck engine.

Those with an interested in European history may also notice how far east the border of Germany is extended in this ad.

Dutch Ford Factory in Amsterdam. This plant was in operation from 1933 to 1981. Looking at the geo-map I see that the site is now totally barren. A link to more history about this plant and Ford's operations on Holland: www.fordtranscontinental.nl/engels/amsterdam.html
