Neorenesansowy budynek został wybudowany z inicjatywy księcia Saksonii-Coburga-Gothy Ernesta II w latach 1864-1879 wg projektu Franza von Neumanna Starszego. Położony jest między Zamkiem Friedenstein a południową częścią Parku Zamkowego. Mieściła się tu książęca kolekcja historii naturalnej, sztuki, monet itp.

The Neo-Renaissance building was built from the initiative of Duke Ernst II of Saxony-Coburg Gotha from 1864 to 1879 according to plans by Franz von Neumann the Elder. It is located between Friedenstein Castle and the southern part of the Castle Park. It housed ducal collection of natural history, art, coins, etc.
