I was walking by the church of Carmen Alto in Oaxaca one afternoon in january and saw these large flags lying on the ground next to the church

Some of these flags were black and others were red. They all looked interesting

Taking a closer look, I could see that there were beautiful religious images in these flags

The group of young people who had brought the banners to Carmen Alto church noticed my interest and asked if I'd like to see what the flags looked like when raised

This is the hermandad or brotherhood of the Lord of Esquipulas from Santa Lucia del Camino near the city of Oaxaca. They told me to come back later when there would be more festivities at the church including a procession with many banners from around the area
