One of the attractions that makes the little town of Banos Ecuador so appealing is this beautiful waterfall that tumbles off of the side of the Tungurahua volcano and eventually flows into the nearby Rio Pastaza. The little horse belongs to one of the many commercial photographers who capitalize on this setting as their backdrop

This painter is putting the finishing touches on his painting of the Virgen de Agua Santa in Banos Ecuador. Banos is a resort town located on the slopes of the very active Tugurahua volcano and there is a spring at this spot that brings cool water out of the depths of the earth

Tungurahua is a stratovolcano that is part of the eastern range of the Andes in Ecuador. Tungurahua started erupting after a period of dormancy in 1999. I had not been in this area since then and was totally amazed to see this huge flow of mud and pyroclastic material that flows from the top of the volcano (just visible) to its base and into the Chambo River canyon. This is the highway between Ambato and Banos which was blocked for a long time, and is still being cleared, by the flows. Tungurahua erupted constantly while I was in Banos which made for an exciting stay
