The Rio Pastaza is a major tributary of the Amazon. The resort town of Banos (baths) Ecuador sits on the side of the Tungurahua volcano above the canyon. The suspension bridge used to be a very exciting way to cross the river to reach the mountain trails on the far side. Now, a new road crosses the river to evacuate people in case Tungurahua erupts again and threatens the community
