This view of the Mixe (ayuuk) town of Tlahuitoltepec Oaxaca was taken in 2007. One can see that the town is built on the side of a mountain which left it vulnerable to the large landslide which killed people in the community yesterday. Initial reports said that 300 homes were buried and up to 1000 people were killed. Today the toll has been revised downward to 4 houses destroyed and 11 people missing and presumed killed. It takes 4 hours (at least -- in good weather) to reach Tlahui from the city of Oaxaca. Yesterday the town was cut off by road due to collapsed bridges and other landslides
