Note, 142021 was built by Associated Rail Technologies (a consortium of Leyland Vehicles Limited who built the body and British Rail Engineering Limited who built the underframe) at British Rail Engineering Limited’s Derby Litchurch Lane works circa November 1985 for British Railways as number 142021. The original diesel-mechanical transmission was replaced by diesel-hydraulic transmission circa 1989, being renumbered 142521. It was further renumbered 142021 in October 1992 and passed to Angel Train Contracts Limited on 1st April 1994 as part of the privatisation of British Railways, Angel Train Contracts Limited being renamed as Angel Trains Limited on 16th May 2000. 142021 was on lease to Northern Rail Limited was stored serviceable at Heaton Traction & Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot on 10th August 2019

35 signal (Down Main Home 2) was commissioned on 9th January 1977 with the signal arm 18’ above rail level replacing a signal 30 yards closer to the signal box. It was carried on a British Railways London Midland Region tubular steel post located in the ten foot between (left to right) the Down Main line and the Down Goods Loop. The tubular steel post carried a white diamond indicating to the driver that his train was occupying a track circuit that indicated his presence to the signalman. It was decommissioned at 00:44 on 31st March 2013 in preparation for the replacement of absolute block working between Vitriol Works, Castleton East Junction and Rochdale West signal boxes by track circuit block working

Note, 40067 was built by The Vulcan Foundry Limited (works number D504) at Newton-le-Willows for the English Electric Company Limited (works number2789) in March 1960 for British Railways as number D267, being renumbered 40067 in February 1974. It was withdrawn from Eastern Region operating stock in week commencing 12th July 1981 and stored at Stratford Diesel Repair Shops until it was moved to Doncaster works in autumn 1981where it was broken up during May 1982

Brewery Sidings signal box 3 signal (Down Main Home) with Thorpes Bridge Junction signal box 7R signal (repeater for 7 signal) below it is carried on a London Midland and Scottish Railway two doll balanced bracket carried on a lattice main stem is along with 7 signal (Down Main Home To Down Goods) with Thorpes Bridge Junction signal box’s Down Goods fixed distant signal below it.

On the right carried on a British Railways London Midland Region tubular steel post is 6 signal (Down Goods Home) with Thorpes Bridge Junction signal box’s Down Goods fixed distant signal below it. And towards the end of the train is Miles Platting Station Junction signal box 89 signal (Down Oldham Starting) with Brewery Sidings signal box 2 signal (Down Main Inner Distant) below it

The signals remained in use until 4th August 1998 when Miles Platting Station Junction, Brewery Sidings and Thorpes Bridge Junction signal boxes were closed

Thornton signal box located by the Down & Up Goods line alongside Station Road level crossing in Thornton. 19:15, Sunday 5th July 1987

Cleveleys signal box was a Saxby & Farmer type 9 design fitted with a 15 lever Saxby & Farmer frame opened in 1877 for the Preston & Wyre Railway. The signal box was renamed Thornton and the railway station was renamed Thornton for Cleveleys on 1st April 1905. The lever frame was extended to 20 levers in 1913, and in 1923 was replaced by a 22 lever Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Company Tappet frame. The signal box was reduced to a non block post controlling the adjacent level crossing only on 9th December 1973 when double line absolute block working between Poulton No3 and Burn Naze North signal boxes was replaced by a single line between Poulton No3 and Burn Naze (the former Burn Naze South) signal boxes worked by direction levers. The signal box closed on 15th November 1987 when the level crossing was converted to trainman operated barriers

The signal box carries a British Railways London Midland Region maroon enamel nameplate

Note, the Preston and Wyre Railway was a London and North Western Railway and Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway joint line
