Sun Voyager sculpture in Raykjavik, Iceland with the Northern Lights & Mount Esja.

We visited Iceland after Christmas. Unfortunately, it rained and was cloudy most of the time. The skies were finally clear our last night so we walked to Shore Walk and Fiskislóð and saw them a bit. I then went out very late (or is 2am very early?) to try capture a shot of Sun Voyager. Fortunately, the slim band we saw earlier was in a good spot with the sculpture. The sculpture is right next to a bright road so I only saw Mount Esja & the aurora on the LCD. I brightened both of them in post and sharpened the stars big-time since it was so clear. Need to visit Iceland again sometime (I'm thinking a self-drive photo trip in October? Thoughts on that idea anyone?). We did visit many great sites and I'm happy to have a keeper of Sun Voyager.

Stared in wonder at El Capitan for an hour while shooting star trails under a nearly full moon. I lined up on the shoreline at Cathedral Beach with the moon facing El Capitan. Incredible to be seeing it close-up in person under the moonlight by the Merced river.

tech details: El Capitan: 245s, f5.6, 14mm, ISO 200; blended with the star trails series shot immediately before: 140 photos at 25s, f4, 14mm, ISO 1000 merged using StarStax

Milky Way over Australia's Uluru after sunset last June. Bonus detail: on the lower right sky, notice the Magellanic Clouds, two dwarf galaxies only visible in the southern hemisphere. Quite a surprise to see!

4 am Yosemite Valley moonscape (5 min exposure) from Artist Point. April’s full moon was quite bright (behind me at 30 degrees) so a long exposure made it look like late afternoon (but look close for star and light trails). Artist Point is 300ft higher and right from Tunnel View. It was incredible to see the entire valley lit up by the moon & it was definitely worth the 50 minute hike in the middle of the night!

June's Strawberry Full Moon over the Sydney Opera House. It paid off to prepare for a break in the clouds!

It had been cloudy all day, but I first caught a glimpse of the moon while walking through Circular Quay on the way to take other shots. Since it looked like a shot might be "possible", I setup at an angle I liked and hoped it would reappear. Once it did, I managed 28 shots before it disappeared again. Such incredible architecture and such a great city to visit!
