Bun an Riomhaire
Scoil Linbh Íosa Galway.
Photograph shows pupils and teacher (nun) of Scoil Linbh Íosa (Sisters of Mercy National School) being presented with a Commodore 64 computer music system.
During the 1980s, Commodores Vic20s and 64s were the most popular computer type in primary schools. As well as quality and reputation, price was a contributory factor and made it more numerous in schools than the more expensive alternatives such as Apple 11s, BBC micros and Tandy computers.
The pupils in the front row are holding (L-R) a software cartridge, a cassette, a Commodore 64 and Commodore Music Maker.
This latter comprised a clip-on keyboard which was placed on top of the 64 keyboard and allowed the user to play music using its bundled software.
The school in the photo was actually located on the same street (Eglinton) in Galway city as 'Declan Europe'- the main Commodore agent for many years in the West of Ireland.
