Cabin at Pine Creek Pack Station, 19 miles north of Bishop, CA
Directions:
From Bishop drive north for a few miles, then turn off along Pine Creek through the old mining town of Rovana, and up into the mountains.
The road dead ends at a small parking lot by the Pine Creek Pack Station, where the valley turns steeply into the peaks and one can climb into some of the most desolate sections of the Sierras. The now-shuttered Union Carbide plant and Tungstar Mine ruins are nearby. The mine was closed in 1990 after 54 years.
