The common Asian water monitor. Secretive, shy, and normally concealed in canals and swamps throughout the city of Bangkok. A massive lizard, one of the world's largest. The body is grey, often with varying spots and chain patterns of yellow-to-tan that fade with age. This one was on the road outside my house. It was running away and more distressed about that than I was. They take cats and other small animals, fish and garbage. Resourceful creatures.
