Never thought about this before but .... how exactly does a vine climb? A straight growing tendril is anchored as the tip curls around a support, and then the tendril is shortened with (in this case) 15 turns to the right (on the right) and 15 turns to the left (on the left). The shortening applies tension and lifts the vine upwards. Elegant simple symmetrical solution.
