A once in a lifetime sight in Bangkok. Rainbows are unusual here. The horizon is rarely clear at sunrise or sunset and the sun is for most of the day high in the tropical sky. I see on average perhaps two or three a year. Anticrepuscular rays are also unusual - my album compiled over 15 years - has a dozen or so examples - most taken just on sunset. To have the two at the same time, with a clear view of the shy and camera in hand is something special.
Composite image. Shadows cross the sky and converge to the anti-solar point. The full moon in light cloud confirms the optics ... the sun is on the horozon behind the camera.

Anticrepuscular rays converging over head to the anti solar point. The rays are parallel and appear to converge because of perspective. Anti rays are less often seen because they are less common and often persist for only a few minutes as the sun sets.

Diffuse rays as the sun sets in this wide-angle composite image. Note the brightness around the anti-solar point.
Taken at dawn by my good friend of many years Bob Hayden Gilbert. Posted with permission. Shadows of cumulus clouds between the camera and the sun disappear overhead to the western horizon. Not often seen because one has to be awake with a view of the western horizon and the cloud conditions must be right. The shadows are often visible for less than five minutes.
