Only the second type that I have seen. The more common species at least in central Thailand (found typically on lemon grass) is in the comments below. This one has similar flattened front legs, eye and antenna arrangement, and the front wings are hardened. This individual was 9 mm in length. Northern Thailand (Taton).

I do not have video of this, but informal observations lead me to believe I know the function of the bum extensions. This is a plant hopper that escapes predation by explosive ejection backwards and upwards off the leaf that it's on when disturbed. The extensions act like the feathers of a shuttlecock and turn the creature to land on its feet on another random leaf half a metre or more away.
