I visited this place for the first time this morning, hoping for fall colors. I should go back in a couple weeks for that, but I am very happy with the results of this trip. The weather was just about perfect - rainy and overcast with the slightest amount of fog. I'm trying to get back into the early morning photography trip habit again, as the smoke has cleared and the weather is getting more moody and interesting in Oregon after a hot, smoky summer. This is a 3 shot panorama. No focus stacking, just f16 with a heavy dose of Topaz Sharpen and a little orton for a slightly mystical look.

I came back to this spot along the Deschutes river near Dillon Falls to shoot the Autumn colors at sunrise this morning. I used all the tricks up my sleeve on this one and it took forever to process, but it was worth it. I think the full resolution image is like 26000 pixels across!

I visited this place for a second time this weekend on a whim to see how it would look under extremely overcast conditions. It was very dark down in the ravine this time, with no sunlight peeking in through the trees at all. The whole area was wetter this time, and I think it was just overall better conditions than the first time I shot there. This is a 3 shot focus-stacked pano. I used much less cross-polarization this time to accentuate the wetness, and processed it with more moody darks. I love the drive out to the Mt Hood wilderness from Bend so even though I only spent about an hour at my destination I felt really good about the whole adventure.
