Seen at the Rides on Monmouth car show in Newport, Kentucky. While this beauty looks good in color, I thought that B&W was more appropriate and in keeping with the dignity of the car. The setting in old Newport is also perfect for the 1940's. I appreciate the owner and his son putting the hood down so the lines of the car wouldn't be disturbed.
While I like most old cars, I'm thinking I'm relatively partial to Packards from the '30's and 40's. Such elegance.

Harbor Springs, Michigan. There were many very expensive and classic cars at this show, but this young lady was drawn to this amazing 1936 Packard Phaeton. I'm told the owner has several other Packards. I saw it driving away from a different show a few days before. From the sound (or actually lack of sound), I'd have to say it runs like the proverbial top.
When I was 14, I attended a camp in Vermont where the owner had a Packard very much like this that he used every day. He even let the campers ride in it with their wet bathing suits. Needless to say, The leather seats took a beating and it wasn't in this condition. I guess in the 50's they weren't recognized as being as special as they now are. However, the next year he had added a Packard hearse of about the same vintage to the camp's fleet. So I have to conclude that, even though he lived a very frugal life, he did appreciate Packards.
There is a Packard museum in Dayton, Ohio some 60 miles north of where I live. As much as I love Packards, it is strange that I still haven't gotten there. They rent some of the cars for things like weddings. I've seen some of them at local car shows. My understanding is that they have an amazing collection.

Tombstone, Arizona. I have to show a front view also. What a jewel this must been in it's hay day.
I'd appreciate any information on the year.

Tombstone, Arizona. I guess an old Packard hearse is the appropriate symbol and attention getter (caught mine) for the Boothill Trading Post. Still, I wish they would offer more respect to such a classic old vehicle. This grand old ride deserves to be restored.
