Elizabeth Mendenhall was an important member of he Cincinnati Sanitation Commission and was involved with the land donation for the Civil War section of the cemetery.

Born in Cincinnati on November 2, 1826, he served in the Mexican war as captain; became a member of the Ohio legislature; ran for lieutenaut-governor in 1857; was a major-general of the Ohio militia; commanded the Fourth Ohio Regiment in General O.M. Mitchel's brigade in the civil war; was killed at the Battle of Chickamauga (Georgia) on September 20, 1863.

Born in 1847. Famous in ceramics and as a carver, she was the pioneer of China Painting in the US and worked with Benn Pittmann She was the rival of Maria Longworth of Rookwood Pottery fame (1st female-owned business in America). Daughter of William and Mary and a niece of James. She was a recluse in her last years and died in Madisonville in 1939 of heart failure.
