Seen in the middle of nowhere on our way to Roussillon, France.
I'm calling this a graveyard chapel rather than a church due to its small size and the fact that the graveyard surrounded it all the way to the door. It was at the top of a hill with a beautiful valley beyond and was enclosed by a rock wall, but no village near that I saw except possibly down the hill behind the chapel. There were a couple of old buildings across the road that looked like currently occupied homes, but nothing else. I also did not notice any signs that would have told me more.

"Roussillon is a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France.
Roussillon lies within the borders of the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon. In the French natural regional parks, new economic activities may be developed only if they are sustainable."
"It is noted for its large ochre deposits found in the clay surrounding the village. Ochres are pigments ranging from yellow and orange to red."
"The village stands on an ochre ridge, situated in a broad valley with the "Monts du Vaucluse" to the north and the "Petit" Luberon to the south."
"Roussillon is famous for the rich deposits of ochre pigments found in the clay near the village. The large quarries of Roussillon were mined from the end of the 18th century until 1930. Thousands of people found work in the quarries and factories. Nowadays the mining of ochre is prohibited here, in order to protect the sites from degradation or even complete destruction."

I'd like her hair style better if you could see her eyes.

Roussillon, a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Most, if not all, of the buildings in Roussillon are made of this ocre-red colored of sandy material that matches the cliffs around the town that it is famous for. Many of the doors and window shutters are painted this color as if the town received a large batch of donated paint. What struck me about this door besides the color is the way it appears that it was pieced together from odd scraps of wood. I don't know if the door is used or if the entrance is simply boarded up. My guess is the latter.

The construction of this old door fascinated me. I can't figure out what the zig-zag is all about. It looks like it could have been put together from scraps of wood. What does the chain on the top left do? Very strange, but interesting.
