I was returning from a quick 2000 mile drive to Tucson to get out from under a massive storm and catch the lunar eclipse in December 2010, and found myself passing Mono Lake at night shortly after a full moon rise. The bright moonlight illuminating the clouds and the snow around the lake made it an interesting scene, so I set up my camera. As I was setting up, a tongue of mist, brightly lit in a patch of moonlight, started to move rapidly out over the lake.
It's too bad I hadn't set up to take a timelapse; it was a fascinating thing to watch, and would have been fun to show you via video.
