The driver opens the regulator to set this 1926 Robey Portable Steam Engine to work.
The engine was originally constructed to power a stone crusher. The engine in unusual as all the principal components are fully enclosed to protect from stone dust.
This was one of the many engines in steam at the annual Westonzoyland "Steam on the Levels" show in May 2024.

Half size (6 inch) replica of a Waterous Engine Works Fire Proof Tractor at the Welshpool & Llanfair 2024 Steam Gala.
The Waterous Works is a north American company which originated in Ontario before moving to Minesota.
I had not heard of this company before spotting this fascinating little engine whose design dates from the late 19th Century the contrast with modern cars is interesting! Certainly looks more fun that the average Vauxhall or VW.

Savage Electric Light Engine of 1891 celebrating its 100th Year at the Great Dorset Steam Fair in 1991. These engines were essentially portable showman's engines which could be hauled by horses or road locomotives and were designed to generate electricity for fairground rides and lighting. The similarity to their self propelled cousins the Showman's Road Locomotive can be clearly seen.
