The AA box - once a familiar feature of rural roads around Britain the AA box has gradually disappeared with the spread of mobile phones. However, Box 289 at Devil's Bridge remains next to the Hafod Arms Hotel.

It has had a repaint since my last visit in 2014.

I have reproduced a monochrome image here as it gives a timeless appearance. For some reason whoever repainted the box did not restore the AA emblems to the two panels either side, perhaps their sign writings skills were lacking?

The box has also appeared in the S4C Police drama Y Gwyll / Hinterland several of the episodes featuring Devil's Bridge.

Identified as being near Garsdale

My paternal grandfather Harold William Luxton probably took this photograph to show his new car a Morris Minor 296CTJ which would appear to be a series II model. His wife Emily Lavinia is leaning into the passenger door. I think this is around 1958.

After the Morris Minor he bought a Wolsley - which I can remember, selling that on to buy a Hillman Super Minx, which my father retained until the early 1990s.

Automobile Association AA BOX 580, on the A497 at Boduan north west of Pwllheli. The box was erected on March 30, 1955. It is now a listed structure.

The following information from the CADW listed building database:

A box structure, timber framed covered with black painted galvanised sheet metal, set on a concrete base. The single doorway faces south-west towards the road. The box has yellow detailing including corporate logos. The cross-gabled roof is silver painted and has a central capped vent. The interior has been altered and retains little original detail.
Said to be one of only twenty-four surviving examples of a type that originally numbered a thousand in the UK.

Abandoned section of the B4327 at Mullock Bridge, Dale, Pemrokeshire.

More photographs: www.jhluxton.com/Roads/Abandoned-Roads-Wales/B4327-Mulloc...

Photographs of an abandoned section of the B4327 at Mallock Bridge, near Dale, Pembrokeshire.

The causeway and bridge has listed building status:

History
Road bridge over marsh with long causeway to W and shorter length to E. Part of the old Haverfordwest to Dale road, disused since being bypassed by new bridge to N. The construction looks of the late C18 or early C19 but the origins may be much older, as by legend it was under Mullock Bridge that Sir Rhys ap Thomas crouched in 1485 to fulfil a prophecy that Henry Tudor would go to the crown only over Sir Rhys' back.

Exterior:
Road bridge, rubble stone, mostly red sandstone. Single arch with red stone rough voussoirs and parapets variously of grey limestone blocks, end-on red sandstone or cement. Causeway extends for a short distance, some 30m, to E, and a considerable distance, some 160m, to W, to an irregular curving line.

Reasons for Listing:
A single-arch bridge and causeway of considerable antiquity and of landscape value in the marshland setting.
